Nothing Short of a Hero

Clark was doing great last night as my mom and Huxley stayed with him. He ate a few crackers, drank some water and juice, and talked and laughed. They had just laid down to sleep when Clark's alarms started going off. They tried to silence them but they wouldn't turn off. A nurse came in and immidiately increased his oxygen to 60% but his sats didn't come up. Then to 100% and still no response. Clark was awake and aware but didn't know what had caused this. The room flooded with doctors. Clark was sedated, intubated, and flown by helecopter to the ICU at the Univeristy Hospital, even though the two are connected and you can walk between them. He is currently on the 4th floor in the MICU. It's earie being back here. We are in the exact same place, same room, same nurses, that we started with the first time Clark came here almost a year ago.

They are having a tough time keeping his oxygen and blood pressure up. We were asked that if his heart should stop, would Clark want then to do CPR. We agreed that they should not. Often times ribs break and it causes other damage and he wouldn't want that. The doctor also said that even if they were to get his heart to start again, he has near to 0% survival rate.

Clark is now resting peacefully. He is not responding but we believe he hears us. Family has gathered here in Utah and in South Dakota. We have said our last words and are trusting in Heavenly Father's will for Clark at this time. He's fought a long hard fight and touched more people in the last year than most will touch in their lifetime. As Myls said to Clark, "You are nothing short of my hero. I love you and I can't wait to see you again!"

God be with you all. Especially God be with Clark, please do not let him suffer, if it is to be let it be. Even though we don't want to lose him, there is the one above that knows why, also his Dad will be there. God, be with each and everyone of you, don't know what to say. He has fought so hard, Lord let him get what he wants. My prayers are with you all.

If tears and prayers were worth anything medically, Clark would be healed. May our prayers be heard and our tears be felt by our God that he may allow his will to be done AND that we may know it is His will that is best.

My prayers and those of my Benedictine Sisters of Mother of God Monastery in Watertown are with Clark and all of you...God's will is the only way...and He will hold Clark close to his most sacred heart...Today we celebrated the Solemnity of The Sacred Heart of Jesus. It's very sad and very wrong morally what medicaid did... There are people in the country getting aid who do not need it and then there are those like Clark that seriously need it...We will pray...Love S. Kim Engelhart

Clark: I have read your blog for a long time. I do not know you. I feel like thru the blog you have become my brother. The first thing I do every morning when I get to my office is read your updates to see how you are. I am crying. I am praying. I am speechless. Please God, save this hero.

From the Schuchards.

There are simply some things in this world for which there are no answers. While we are here, we are incapable of understanding why amazing young men like Clark would be struck down just as they enter the prime of their life...why this wonderful family is being asked to endure yet another tragedy. Simply put, fairness is an illusion that we are constantly seeking while we are in these flesh bodies. However, fairness...true, lasting fairness...only exists in the presence of our Lord. In short, we are asking questions and assuming there are answers. Sometimes, there simply are no answers available.

Clark, if it is time for you to leave us, then leave knowing how much you are and will continue to be loved. If it is time, your complete healing is about to occur. Thank you for reminding us to never, ever take one another for granted. I don't have my Bible handy, but I can't help but think of this paraphrased scripture "No eye has seen; no ear has heard; no mind can possibley imagine the awesome things that the Lord has in store for those who love Him." Clark, if this is God's will for your short life, you will be seeing and hearing things that are more glorious than we are capable of conceiving. One day, we will all join you. Until then, Clark Kent, rest well for your true time is only beginning.

In my mind, you will forever be the bright-eyed, sweet child walking across our lawn to come see if BJ can play. Forever young.

It is so difficult psychologically to shift from "fight your best fight" to one of acceptance and possibly of letting go. This transition feels abrupt and surreal.
Clark- your strength and determination have influenced so many people...people who do not know your personally but who know your spirit. I cannot think of many people who have had this kind of impact on the world.
May you walk in peace and light...I, along with so many, will be praying you to whatever destination awaits you-whether it be on this plane or the next world.

My heart is breaking in half. Oh Father in Heaven, it is yours to give and to take. Please then, Lord, give comfort and peace in the face of such unknown...and the faith that will be needed for whatever may follow.

...and Lord, if there's any way possible, can we please keep him here with us?

I don't think you will ever truly know just how many lives you have touched having gone through this trialsome experience. We've all learned something valuable as we've followed along with your blog here. Your situation has made me question so many things and made me change habits in my life for the better. Things that will make me a better person all around. Whether you understand this or not, I thank you for that. And I continue to pray that all will be comforted no matter what the outcome. And that if possible, that the Lord might let us keep you here on earth a little bit longer. You have inspired us all. We love you, The Huntingtons in South Carolina.

I didn't know Clark but I do know people who knew him. I have been so deeply touched by Clark and his family. I don't have any words to say how saddened I am to hear of his passing. I only hope that you know that he is no longer fighting. He is in peace. Thank you to his family for keeping all of us in cyber land updated on his condition. You guys should be really proud of Clark for the battle he fought and also for yourselves and the way you fought. May God bless you.

To the Kimble and Extended Families,
My heart is so full at this time as I sit here reading the latest about Clark. I know somewhat of what you are going through, but Please, Rhonda and family, Know that our Heavenly Father has a very special place and work for Clark to do now that he has called him home.
Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we feel about Clark’s passing. We are here to support you in your grieving process. With sincere sympathy, as Leo Buscaglia states, "I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love". Remembering you and your family in our minds and in our hearts and prayers. May God Bless you ALL at this time. Kristen, what an angel and God send you have been for your brother. What an AWESOME sister you have been and are.
Thanks so very much for letting our family, The Gullickson’s be a small part of Clarks life. We WILL cherish him in our hearts forever. I can just imagine seeing him now in the hereafter celebrating and having a reunion with ALL the loved ones that have also passed on before him, namely, his dad, Jim, other family members and the MANY friends he had, just to mention a few.
I also know that we WILL meet again in the hereafter. As for now though, I am thanking YOU, “The Kimble, Yoder, Larson, Huntington, etc...Families” for letting him be a small part of our life also. With sincere sympathy, you are all in our minds, hearts and prayers. We Love you all and are very grateful to have known such an “AWESOME YOUNG MAN”".
God be with you all
The Gullickson’s, Duane, Patti and Family, Jon, (the late, Brandi), Nic, Ron and Juanita
